Bishop Mamza distributes books, cash to 50 orphans @ Int’l day of charity
The Bishop of Yola Catholic diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza has today donated books, cash, and sundry writing materials to no fewer than 50 orphans as the world mark International Day of Charity.
The event was coordinated in conjunction with the Justice Development Peace Commission (JDPC).

In his speech, Mamza who thanked other partners said he was moved by love to ensure that the children of the less privileged are also carried along in order to secure their feature.
He noted that in the spirit of humanity as espoused by Mother Theresa of Calcutta, he deemed it fit to carry out the gesture alone but was advised to streamline it with the international day of charity which falls on September 5.
Mamza noted that the 50 benefitting orphans were strategically drawn from IDPs camps and communities across the two faiths in the state with the sole purpose of assisting them to go back to school as holidays come to an end.
Items distributed to the 50 orphans include 12 exercise books, writing materials and N7,000 cash to each of them.
The Bishop who urged well meaning Nigerians to come to the aide of the orphans noted that little contributions like the one he made will go a long way in assisting the young children to have a chance at education.
“There are hundreds of thousands of children who could not go to school because they have no uniforms, books and other learning materials.
“It is in that respect that I deemed it right to contribute in this little way to ensure these children go back to school as schools resume,” he said.
Also commending the Bishop, the project coordinator of Justice Refugee Service (JRS) Project Director Uyioghosa Igbinigies noted that the gesture is in line with her organization’s goal of extending a hand of fellowship to the less privileged members of the society.
She urged other churches in Yola to borrow a leaf from the Catholic Church in extending humanitarian gesture to the less privileged ones.
Igbinigies then announced a donation of N50,000 on behalf of her organization to the orphans.
