Adamawa FRSC to reduce road crashes through driver reforms – Adikwu
The sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Adamawa, Yahaya Sabo Adikwu, has pledged to ensure substantial reduction of road crashes by reforming the driving profession.
Adikwu made the pledge during a chat with newsmen in commemoration of day of remembrance of road crash victims which is observed every 21 November.

He noted that as the commander of FRSC in the state, he was prodded by the angst and economic losses incurred by families whenever road crashes occur to initiate a process that will end or substantially reduce such crashes in the state.
Adikwu added that to that effect he is championing an epoch making initiative that will reform the driving profession and make Adamawa State a model in refined driving.
“I have since assumption into office about 3 – 4 months entered into a contract with Adamawa drivers through my renewed Adamawa driver project on the Nov. 5, 2024. I launched the program at Adamawa Sunshine and the company has already adopted my prototype as company policy.
“I have already set up a monitoring team to ensure compliance in Adamawa Sunshine and the fresh air buses. Through the renewed driver, we want to bring the courtesies and finesse reminiscent in air travel to our drivers. The drivers have seen a lot of wisdom in our innovation,” he said.
He noted that considering the huge number of people who loss their lives to road crashes, it is pertinent to come up with innovative ways of reducing the scourge noting that in his innovation he targets the driver as the main agent of change.
“According to statistics every year the world loses about 3,300 souls due to road crashes. The most nauseating part is that 80 percent of the crash occur in Africa.
“When you talk about vehiclular density, Africa and the entire third world have only 20 – 25 percent of vehicles while Europe and USA have about 80 percent yet they record only 20 percent road crashes,” he said.
Adikwu called for global action against road crashes in view of their debilitating effects especially in Africa similar to the global action taken against HIV/AIDS and COVID – 19 in view of the global dangers road crashes posed to families.
He noted that prevention of road crashes is far more important than remembering the victims calling on all stakeholders to pull forces together to ensure the decimation of the scourge for the benefit of families and nations.
