Batik, tie and dye: Linda Binos, Peace Bassani take training to Adamawa South
Two promising young women from Adamawa Southern Senatorial District have seen the need to bring home their wealth of experience on batiking, tie and dying as well as other fabric artistic work to train the youth and women in the Zone to enable them become useful to themselves, their families and the society.
Lynda Rubi Binos (Lynn’s Armoire) and Peace Bassani Yohanna (Bassani Textile) left their comfort zones and businesses and spent three days to train the youth and women on fabric artistic designs as well as empower them with materials that would enable them set up businesses of their own.

Lynda Rubi Binos; daughter to the Senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, and her friend thought it wise to train the participants on batiking, tie and dying to equip them to be self-reliance.
The participants who were selected across the 9 LGAs of Adamawa Southern Senatorial Zone underwent extensive training on the rudiments of batiking and dying which was held at Green House Hotel in Mayo-Belwa LGA during the week.
According to Rubi, she and her friend Peace Bassani decided to embark on the project in order to contribute their quota in the empowerment programme of her father; Senator Binos Yaroe. She noted that the participants were groomed in all what they need to know about dying and batiking.
She said that gone were the days when people depend on white collar-jobs, adding that developed countries like Singapore witnessed rapid developmental transformation when its government engaged the young people in skills acquisition programmes.
The Lynn’s Armoire lady stressed the need for the younger generation to engage in entrepreneurship and pursue academic knowledge in order for them to be in tune with changing times.
Rubi said that their decision to embark on the project was borne out of their love for the constituents of Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, which was sponsored by Senator Binos Yaroe.
She noted that the participants did not only acquire knowledge on batiking, tie, dying and other fabric artistic designs, they were given the required working and practical materials each worth N115, 000 to each of the twenty (20) participants with accomodations, feeding and transport fare; all for free.
In Rubi’s words, “We cannot just train them and allow them to go back to their respective places just like that going by the economic hardship of this country. We’ve seen the need to provide working and practical materials for them, coupled with certificate and transportation. All for free.
“Peace and I came up with this initiative because we wanted our people back home here to benefit from this knowledge and make business for themselves. We sold the idea to the Senator and he bought it without any hesitation”.
While appreciating Senator Binos for giving them a listening ear and agreeing to foot the bills of the training, Rubi expressed optimism that the participants would go back to their respective communities and train others too with the knowledge they acquired from the training.
On her part, Peace Bassani Yohanna said that batiking and dying business have been having strong footing in other parts of the country, hence they decided to come back home to empower the youth and women with the necessary skills for them to enhance their livelihoods.
Bassani acknowledged the significant role being played by Senator Binos Yaroe for making their dream a reality, describing him as a true father and politician who has the interest of his constituents at heart.
Addressing the participants, Senator Binos Yaroe said that empowering his constituents is one of his topmost priorities, hence he waisted no time in buying into the idea of the two young promising women.
Represented by his wife, Mrs Gimbiya Binos Yaroe, the Senator assured the participants and the Adamawa South people as a whole of his commitment and determination to keep providing them with the needed dividends of democracy.
He called on the younger generation to engage in meaningful businesses and not to wait for white collar-jobs, urging them to use their God-given talents and initiatives to better their livelihoods.
“Don’t keep the knowledge you acquired here for yourselves alone. Keep learning and teach others too at your respective communities. Start from home, neighbours and then the entire community. No knowledge is waisted. More of this and other similar empowerment trainings are coming for the benefit and betterment of the people of Adamawa Southern Senatorial District”, he stated.
In his remarks, Director-General of Binos Campaign Team, Mr Boniface Katawan commended Lynda Rubi Binos and Peace Bassani Yohanna for their initiative, adding that he was overwhelmed by the end-result of the training.
He called on others who studied in various fields of academics to transfer the knowledge down to the people, making reference with those who read civil engineering and other engineering-related courses.
One of the participants, Hundoko Samuel was into the business of washing and ironing clothes for people. He could not hide his joy over the training, saying that the skills he leaned would add value to his business.
In his words, “In my business, I only wash clothes and iron them. But with the knowledge I acquired from this training, I can also tie and dye clothes for my customers. I want to thank our facilitators, Lynda and Peace for taking their time to train us”.
Another participant, Winnie Richard said that with the skills she got from the training and the working materials given to her, she would be able to establish a business and train others too.
While appreciating the efforts of Lynda Rubi Binos and Peace Bassani Yohanna in making sure they learn the skills, Winnie thanked Senator Binos Yaroe for sponsoring the training for them to be empowered.
The training which include both theory and practical, saw the emergence of new dye-and-tye design experts in the Zone, hence adding value to the livelihoods of the constituents of Adamawa Southern Senatorial Zone.
