FMC B-Kudu observes 2025 nurses week, lauds hospital management
The Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has observed the 2025 International Nurses week to commemorate the birth of the founder of modern Nursing Miss Florence Nightingale.
Nurse, Abubakar Ahmed, chairman of the organizing committee told newsmen in Birnin Kudu on Tuesday said the week was slated in memory of Nightingale in recognition of her immense contribution to the profession, saying Nightingale was the pioneer of Nursing as a profession hence “we call her the first nurse in the history of the profession.”

Nurse, Ahmed explained that Nurses play a critical and vital role in healthcare delivery adding that without nurses medical practice would not see the light of the day especially considering the roles of the profession on patients care.
He used the occasion to commend the efforts of the management of the hospital under the stewardship of Dr Adamu Abdullahi Atterwharmie considering the positive transformations witnessed by the facility.
According to him within the last two years the management of the hospital has employed over one hundred qualified nurses on permanent and pensionable status based on the constitutional principle of federal character.
He added that many nurses and other members of staffs have been sent for further training with a view to build their capacity and enhance healthcare delivery, stressing the medical director has been performing excellently on staff welfare and provision of critical infrastructure like medical equipment and other healthcare apparatuses.
” We are equally grateful to Dr Atterwhamie for conducting the just concluded promotion examination to hundreds of staffs” he said.
Our correspondent reports that highlight of the occasion were presentation of award of excellence to Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim Yayannan, member representing Birnin Kudu constituency in the Jigawa State house of assembly and nine other notable individuals for their outstanding contributions on healthcare delivery.
