INEC makes clarification on Adamawa ADC leadership crisis, affirms Yohanna’s legitimacy
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has waded into the intractable leadership crisis rocking Adamawa State chapter of African Democratic Congress (ADC) recognizing the leadership of Shehu Yohanna K.
INEC’s declaration was a response to the Freedom of Information (FoI) request forwarded to it by A.A Jatau & Co a legal firm seeking clarification on the position of the commission regarding the legitimate chairman and leadership structure of the party.

Responding to the FoI request, Head of Department (HoD) legal services of the commission acknowledged Shehu Yohanna K as the legitimate chairman of the State chapter of the party.
”On the 8th April, 2022, the ADC conducted state Congress for the party which was monitored by INEC Adamawa State office.
”During the Congress, 44-man state executives were elected in which Mohammed A. Mustapha becomes the state party chairman.
”On 17th Jan, 2024, the commission’s headquarters received a letter signed by the national chairman and secretary of the party which forwarded the names of five interim/acting chairmen for some states Adamawa State included.
”The letter indicated that Yohanna Shehu K is the chairman of the party for the state. You find attached photocopies of the list of the state executives produced during the last party’s state Congress and the letter received by the commission at the headquarters that was forwarded to INEC Adamawa State for notification and consideration,” the HoD legal services disclosed.
The Adamawa State chapter of the party is wading through leadership crisis with both Comrade Shehu Yohanna K and Mohammed A. Mustapha declaring and presenting themselves as chairmen of the party.
