Cleanliness, competence and cutting-edge care: WACS commends MAUTH’s radiology renaissance
The Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, is steadily scripting a success story in healthcare and medical education, earning glowing commendation from the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) during a recent reaccreditation exercise.
A three-man delegation from the Radiology Faculty of WACS visited the hospital to assess its facilities, personnel and training environment against the standards required for postgraduate medical education.

Led by Professor A. M. Agunloye of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, the team expressed delight at the remarkable progress achieved since their last accreditation visit five years ago. They praised the department’s purposeful leadership, the hospital’s immaculate cleanliness, and the presence of state-of-the-art radiological equipment, including modern X-ray machines, CT scan, MRI, and DEXA systems.
The Chief Medical Director of MAUTH, Professor Adamu Girei Bakari, described the reaccreditation as more than an institutional ritual but rather a vital quality assurance process that sustains standards in medical training and patient care. “It ensures that teaching hospitals create the right environment for learning while delivering the highest quality of healthcare,” he emphasised.
Looking ahead, Professor Bakari disclosed that the hospital is further strengthening its diagnostic services with additional mobile X-ray units, a new CT scanner and mammography facilities expected soon.
With these advancements, MAUTH is positioning itself not only as a leading destination for specialist training in radiology but also as a beacon of modern, patient-centered healthcare delivery in the region. The hospital remains optimistic about a favourable outcome from the WACS reaccreditation, an endorsement of both its progress and its promise.
