600 students benefit from dignity kits distribution in Borno
In a renewed effort to boost education and improve the welfare of schoolchildren in Borno State, the Ubola Rural Community Foundation has distributed dignity kits and essential school materials to 600 students of Shehu Garba and Magumeri Day Secondary Schools.
The initiative, which forms part of the Foundation’s second phase of the Dignity Kits Project covering Borno, Gombe, and Taraba States, is aimed at encouraging students to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and ease the burden on parents struggling to provide basic educational supplies.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Foundation, Musa Dauda, underscored the central role of education in national development. He explained that supporting students is not just an investment in their future but also a strategy to build peaceful communities.
“The role of education in nation-building cannot be overemphasized. That is why we are supporting students, particularly those from poor families, so they do not drop out of school. If young people are well-educated, society will be free from violence and unrest,” Dauda said.
He further appealed to the federal and state governments, alongside well-meaning individuals, to intensify efforts in supporting education nationwide.
Before the distribution, the Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) office in Borno. The State Coordinator of the Commission, Mohammed Umara, commended the Foundation for complementing government efforts in education. While pledging NEDC’s continued support, he encouraged the Foundation to enhance the quality of materials provided to ensure durability.
“We will continue to collaborate with the state government and partners like Ubola Foundation to raise the standard of education across Borno,” Umara assured.
Also addressing the gathering, the Foundation’s Technical Assistant, Dr. Omede Ogu, revealed that the intervention would be expanded to cover all senatorial districts in Borno. He appreciated both the state government and the NEDC for their cooperation in making the project a success.
Representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Engr. Umar and Palmata Umar respectively, also lauded the initiative. They pledged to monitor the use of the distributed materials to ensure they serve the intended purpose. According to them, Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration has made remarkable progress in the education sector, with special attention to student welfare and hygiene.
Beyond school supplies, the Foundation also extended its humanitarian gesture to the Gongolong Gonori community, where dignity kits were distributed to women, girls, and boys. The kits contained reusable sanitary pads, toothbrushes and toothpaste, notebooks, pens, face towels, body cream, hair cream, and underwear.
Of the 600 beneficiaries, 400 were female students while 200 were male. Female students particularly received additional hygiene-related items to promote cleanliness and boost their confidence in school. Other distributed materials included school bags, exercise books, pencils, and other learning tools.
For many families, the intervention brought relief. Several parents, who could not afford basic school supplies due to economic hardship, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for helping their children continue their education without stigma or interruption.
Education stakeholders at the event stressed that such community-driven support is vital in addressing the challenges facing education in the North-East, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Borno. With the impact of insurgency still evident, they noted that interventions like the Dignity Kits Project play a crucial role in rebuilding lives and restoring hope for young learners.
The Ubola Rural Community Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the initiative and scaling up its reach to ensure that more children in underserved communities have access to the tools they need to learn and thrive.
