Fintiri praises self for tripling IGR in five years @ independence

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State on Wednesday used the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration to highlight the state’s remarkable progress in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), describing it as a symbol of true independence and development.
Speaking during his Independence Day address in Yola, Fintiri said Adamawa has almost tripled its IGR within five years, rising from ₦6.2 billion in 2019 to ₦16.2 billion in 2025.

He attributed the growth to fiscal discipline, transparency, and digital reforms introduced by his administration.
“This is how independence becomes tangible when good governance translates into real development,” the governor said, stressing that the state’s economic reforms were laying a foundation for sustained growth and service delivery.
Fintiri explained that the surge in IGR is already being reflected in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
He noted that thousands of classrooms have been rebuilt, health facilities revitalized, and roads constructed to connect communities across the state.
To consolidate the progress, the governor announced an ongoing recruitment exercise to inject 12,000 new workers into the state civil service.
According to him, the process covers 5,000 positions in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), another 5,000 in post-primary education, and 2,000 in the health sector.
“This is not just a job drive it is an investment in efficiency, public service, and the future of our youth,” he stated.
Fintiri used the independence celebration to urge citizens to embrace discipline, truth, and hard work, stressing that government alone cannot transform the state without the cooperation of the people.
Quoting from the Qur’an, he reminded citizens that “Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
The governor also charged young people to take ownership of the future, saying, “Your time is not coming, your time is here. The baton is already in your hands.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, pledging to expand infrastructure, deepen healthcare, strengthen education, and secure every part of Adamawa.
“With unity, discipline, and accountability, we can make independence matter not just as a date on the calendar, but as a living reality in the lives of our people,” Fintiri said.
