It’s either Komsiri or no deal: Critical stakeholders back Atiku’s choice as Adamawa ADC crisis deepens
Critical stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State have called the bluff of the Babachir David Lawal–led splinter group, insisting that the leadership of Hon. Saidu Komsiri, the Atiku Abubakar backed caretaker chairman, remains sacrosanct and non-negotiable.
The position of the stakeholders came in the wake of a meeting convened by Babachir David Lawal which allegedly endorsed former Adamawa Speaker, Sadiq Dasin as the caretaker chairman of ADC in the state.
But in what appears to be a firm consolidation of the former Vice President’s political influence within the ADC structure in Adamawa State, leaders from both the Southern, Central and northern Senatorial Zones of the state issued separate communiqués over the weekend, reaffirming their loyalty to Atiku Abubakar and dismissing any parallel structure allegedly sponsored by Babachir Lawal and his allies.
The stakeholders described Komsiri’s endorsement as the product of wide consultation, consensus, and the desire to reposition the party in line with democratic discipline and internal harmony.
They warned that any act of intransigence to undermine the collective will and decision of the party would never be tolerated and will be decisively dealt with.
Among the prominent signatories to the communiqués are; Sen. Ahmed Hassan Barata, Hon. Umar Bello Jada (Calculate), Prince Ibrahim Mustapha (Baba 10), Hon. Abdullahi Musa Speaker, Col. Abubakar Muhammed (rtd), Hon. Rifkatu Tandawus, Ustas Jibrilla Mahamud, and Hajiya Larai Adamu, among others.
Adamawa South Stakeholders’ Position
During a meeting at the Galaxy Hotel in Demsa on Saturday, October 18, 2025, stakeholders from the Southern Senatorial Zone declared their unalloyed support for Hon. Saidu Komsiri as the legitimate caretaker chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State.
In a communiqué jointly signed by Senator Ahmed Hassan Barata, who chaired the meeting, and Hon. Umar Bello Jada, Secretary of the Communiqué Committee, the southern bloc stated that “the endorsement of Hon. Saidu Komsiri by the Adamawa State critical stakeholders and the ADC Northeast Zonal stakeholders is a reflection of broad-based confidence in his leadership capacity.”
They noted that there was a leadership vacuum within the Adamawa State chapter of the ADC which necessitated the appointment of a credible and unifying caretaker committee to reposition the party ahead of its membership registration and revalidation exercise.
“The zoning of the caretaker chairmanship to the southern senatorial zone is sacrosanct. After due consideration and consultation, we unanimously endorse Hon. Saidu Komsiri as the caretaker committee chairman of ADC Adamawa State,” the communique maintained.
The meeting further reaffirmed total and unconditional allegiance to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, whom they described as “the natural leader and guiding light of the African Democratic Congress.
“Atiku Abubakar’s leadership has brought new vigor, credibility, and strategic direction to the ADC both in Adamawa and across Nigeria. We stand firmly with him and will ensure that he enjoys the home-based support needed to galvanize other stakeholders nationwide.”
The Southern Zone also pledged to embark on massive grassroots mobilization across the nine local government areas of Adamawa South including Demsa, Lamurde, Guyuk, Shelleng, Numan, Mayo-Belwa, Jada, Ganye, and Toungo so as to strengthen the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Emphasizing unity and internal discipline, the stakeholders warned against factionalism and divisive rhetoric, describing such tendencies as counterproductive to the Atiku-led coalition’s objectives.
They also passed a vote of confidence on the ADC National Working Committee led by Senator David Mark commending its steadfastness in repositioning the party.
Adamawa central and northern Stakeholders join clarion call, endorse Komsiri
In a separate meeting held on October 20, 2025, stakeholders from the central Zone and their counterparts from the northern zone simultaneously adopted the Southern Zone’s position, declaring that “whoever stands for the ideals and vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, we shall stand with them; but whoever stands against him, we shall not follow.”
The meeting, which drew participants from both the Central and Northern Zones, witnessed massive attendance and unity of purpose among delegates.
In an unprecedented show of unity, the meeting was convened by Prince Ibrahim Mustapha (Baba 10) from central zone while Rabiu Abubakar from northern zone served as its secretary.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Umar Bello Jada, a national officer of the party, expressed concern over the emergence of a five-man committee allegedly formed under Babachir David Lawal’s influence, describing it as “an unauthorized and unconstitutional move not sanctioned by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).”
“The ADC remains a party built on structure, accountability, and fairness. No individual or external force will be allowed to compromise its unity or manipulate its internal operations for personal gain,” he warned, insisting that Komsiri remains the only recognized chairman of the party in Adamawa State.
Speaking in the same vein, Hon. Abdullahi Musa Speaker accused Comrade Shehu Yohana of political double-dealing, alleging that he had been fraternizing with the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while retaining his ADC membership.
He described Yohana’s actions as “a betrayal of trust and violation of the ADC’s core values of loyalty and integrity,” stressing that the party would not tolerate divided allegiance.
On his part, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha Baba 10 accused certain PDP elements of betraying former Vice President Atiku Abubakar despite his long-standing contributions to their political rise. He claimed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s recent political maneuvers represented “a pattern of ingratitude against a man who has consistently elevated others.”
“We did not leave PDP for ambition or rebellion. We left to preserve our dignity and principles. Now, our loyalty is with the ADC under the guidance of Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
The harmonized meeting unanimously endorsed the leadership of Hon. Saidu Komsiri as the acting state chairman of the ADC, aligning itself with the earlier resolution of the Southern Zone.
