Tol Huba honours Fintiri as defender ‘Midala’ @ chiefdom’s 1st anniversary

The Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, has conferred the traditional title of Midala Huba on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri during the first anniversary of the Huba Chiefdom.

The event took place at the Hong Mini Township Stadium Today, marking one year since Governor Fintiri presented the staff of office to the Tol Huba and officially restored the chiefdom.

Thousands of people from Hong Local Government Area and other parts of Adamawa State attended the celebration. The stadium was filled with men and women dressed in colorful traditional outfits. Community leaders, politicians and government officials were also present.

While presenting the title, the Tol Huba said “Midala” means Defence Minister, warrior, hero and defender in Huba (Kilba) tradition. He described Governor Fintiri as a strong leader who restored the dignity and autonomy of the Huba people after many years of struggle.

The monarch said the governor showed courage by creating new chiefdoms and emirates across the state. He added that the decision brought fairness and inclusion to many communities.

“Governor Fintiri deserves this honour for standing firm and doing what is right for our people,” the Tol Huba said.

The creation of the Huba Chiefdom in December 2024 ended what community leaders described as over 100 years of struggle for recognition. Many speakers at the event called the anniversary a “liberation day” for the Huba people.

The celebration also featured cultural displays, traditional dances, a mini durbar procession and a football competition known as the Tol Alheri B. Nyako Annual Tournament. A development plan for Hong Local Government was also unveiled during the program.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, who chaired the occasion. Other top government officials and political leaders from different parties were also present.

In his remarks, Governor Fintiri thanked the Huba people for the honour. He promised to continue promoting unity, fairness and development across Adamawa State.

As the Huba Chiefdom begins its second year, community leaders say they are hopeful for more progress and stronger unity among their people.
