Fintiri dumps PDP for APC, Says move ‘In best interest of Adamawa

Two days after PDP members of Adamawa State house of assembly dumped their political platform, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has also followed suit with an early morning announcement of his defection to the Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, the governor said the decision was taken in the overriding interest of the state and its people.

The governor said the move followed wide consultations across the state and was driven by the need to strategically align Adamawa with national politics.
“Recent events in the polity demand that we take decisive and strategic decisions. After wide consultations with a large spectrum of our people, we have resolved to politically align Adamawa State with the APC,” the governor said.
He explained that the alignment would enable the state to effectively support and leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in key sectors such as social welfare, infrastructure, housing and inclusive economic development.
Fintiri, who won the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections on the PDP platform, reminded citizens of the trust they had reposed in him, noting that his administration had prioritized security, constructed roads, schools, hospitals, houses and markets, and empowered youths and women. He also cited the creation of new chiefdoms, emirates and districts as part of efforts to promote inclusion and cohesion.
The governor emphasized that the decision to leave the PDP was neither personal nor driven by convenience.
“It was guided by one overriding consideration: the long-term stability, development and prosperity of Adamawa State,” he stated.
Declaring that “the years of sideline politics are over,” Fintiri said Adamawa was returning to mainstream politics to secure greater opportunities and stronger national relevance.
He assured supporters that the movement to the APC would be collective and structured, disclosing that all 226 wards, 21 local government areas, elected and appointed officials, as well as the party’s political machinery in the state, would align with him.
Calling on supporters to register massively in the APC, the governor pledged continued delivery of democratic dividends, including infrastructure development, job creation, scholarships and empowerment programmes.
“This is more than a promise. It is a sacred covenant,” Fintiri declared, urging citizens to trust that the new political direction represents “the best place to go” for Adamawa’s future.
While also reiterating their support, Adamawa State commissioners vow to remain steadfast with Fintiri because of the excellent leadership he has displayed.
At a press conference with newsmen, Aloysius Babadoke, the state commissioner for culture and tourism express the commissioners unflinching support to the governor adding their they are fully committed and behind him regardless of his political choices.
