Nyako’s defection to APC: Adamawa ADC finally dead – Fintiri
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) “politically dead” in the state following the defection of Senator Abdulaziz Nyako to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fintiri made the declaration during a grand reception held in Adamawa to formally welcome him into the APC.

The event was attended by top party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking before a large crowd of party supporters, Fintiri said the return of Senator Nyako had effectively ended the influence of the ADC in Adamawa politics.
According to him, Nyako had remained the “heartbeat” of the opposition bloc in the state, and his defection marked the collapse of the party’s structure.
He assured the APC leadership that the state would deliver a landslide victory for the party in future elections, from the House of Assembly to the presidential poll.
Fintiri also praised the policies of President Tinubu, particularly his macro-economic reforms and the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said were gradually repositioning Nigeria.
He noted that aligning Adamawa with the ruling party would accelerate development in the state and create more opportunities for the people.
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima described Fintiri’s defection as a major political development and a sign that the APC remained the party of choice for Nigerians.
He said the party was proud to welcome the Adamawa governor and commended his leadership style and work ethic. Shettima added that the APC would continue to build a stronger and more inclusive political platform across the country.
The Chairman of the APC in Adamawa State, Shuaibu Idris, described the governor as a major political force whose entry into the party would strengthen its chances ahead of future elections.
He said Fintiri’s administration had recorded significant achievements in infrastructure and governance, adding that the party was ready to work with him to consolidate the gains.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said the APC was delighted to welcome Fintiri into what he described as the largest political party in the country. He noted that the party now controls the majority of states in Nigeria and is committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda also congratulated the governor, saying his entry into the APC would strengthen the party’s presence in Adamawa and boost its prospects in national politics.
