Eng. Diaulhaq Abubakar, two others bag NSE prestigious awards
Adamawa’s frontline gubernatorial hopeful and renowned philanthropist, Eng. Diaulhaq Abubakar who is the traditional title holder of Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta alongside two others have on Saturday bagged the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) merit awards.
The two others are Eng Saidu M. Njidda, Barde Adamawa and Hon Audu Ayuba Tanko, Kauran Mubi.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Yola Branch, on Saturday hosted a Dinner and Awards Night alongside the unveiling of its 2026/2027 programme calendar, bringing together top engineering professionals, government officials, and stakeholders in the engineering sphere.
In his keynote address, the National President of the NSE, Eng. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, who was represented by Eng. Abubakar Usman, commended the Yola Branch for its vibrancy and commitment to advancing the engineering profession.
He expressed gratitude to the branch for its support during his emergence as president, describing their contributions, financial and moral as a reflection of the unity and strength of the profession.
He urged members to align with ongoing reforms and programmes under his leadership aimed at repositioning the NSE to take its rightful place in Nigeria’s national development agenda.
According to him, the Dinner and Awards Night initiative serves as a platform for fostering unity among engineers and strengthening collaboration with other professions, which he described as critical to achieving sustainable development.
The NSE President also congratulated the award recipients, noting that the honour should not only be seen as recognition of past achievements but also as a motivation for greater contributions to the profession and the country.
He reiterated the society’s longstanding reputation for excellence, innovation, and dedication to national progress.
A major highlight of the evening was a technical presentation by the Federal Controller of Works, Eng. Dimas Tuwai, who spoke on the “Variation of Price (VOP) of Materials in Highway Construction.”
Tuwai who took time to elucidate shed the complexities surrounding cost fluctuations in construction projects, particularly in long-term highway developments noted that variation of price is as critical as the project itself.
He explained that Variation of Price refers to the difference between contractually agreed prices and prevailing market costs of materials and services, emphasizing that such provisions are essential in standard engineering contracts.
According to him, many infrastructure projects span several years, making it necessary to accommodate price changes due to inflation, economic policies, and global geopolitical factors.
Eng. Tuwai cited examples of policy shifts and international conflicts that have significantly impacted material costs, stressing that failure to account for such variations could stall or derail projects.
He further outlined key materials affected by VOP, including cement, steel reinforcement, bitumen, fuel, and other essential inputs in road construction, while noting that clear contractual clauses guide the computation and application of these variations.
Responding on behalf of the award recipients, Eng. Diaulhaq Abubakar expressed profound gratitude to the NSE for the honour, describing it as a rare recognition that would inspire greater commitment to service.
He reflected on the historical significance of engineering as one of the oldest professions, highlighting its central role in shaping human civilization, from early agricultural tools to modern infrastructure.
He emphasized that engineers are trained problem-solvers whose contributions often go unnoticed despite their impact on development.
Diaulhaq called for increased recognition and appreciation of engineers by both the public and government, noting that such encouragement would spur more innovation and dedication within the profession.
Describing the award as both an honour and a responsibility, he pledged to continue contributing meaningfully to society while dedicating the recognition to fellow engineers and aspiring professionals.
Diaulhaq Abubakar extolled the branch Chairman, Eng. Professor Bashir Aliyu, for his leadership and commitment to sustaining a culture of excellence within the branch.
