Former REA MD Ahmad Salihijo Faces Political Attacks Despite No Charges
As political consultations ahead of the elections continue in Adamawa State, supporters of Engr. Ahmad Salihijo have accused detractors of reviving old narratives from the Rural Electrification Agency probe to undermine his growing political profile.
Salihijo, former Managing Director of the REA, was suspended alongside other officials during investigations into alleged financial misconduct within the agency. At the time, the development generated widespread public speculation.
However, subsequent reports and court proceedings have shown that Salihijo was neither charged nor listed among those facing prosecution in connection with the matter.
Investigations and media reports indicated that prosecutions arising from the probe were focused on certain finance officials accused of bypassing due process in the handling of payments and approvals.
Political observers say the continued attempt to tie Salihijo to the allegations despite the absence of charges reflects the nature of Nigerian politics, where perception is often used as a tool against opponents.
Supporters of the former REA boss insist that the attacks are politically motivated and driven by concerns over his growing acceptance among youths and stakeholders across Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency.
They maintain that after years of investigations, the absence of any criminal indictment against Salihijo speaks louder than the narratives being pushed against him.
