Stakeholders identify gaps, pathways for securing the future of Taraba, Adamawa children
Critical stakeholders from Adamawa and Taraba States have validated that despite huge investments, the state of children did not significantly improve as incidences of malnutrition, deprivations, out-of-school syndrome, neonatal and child mortality, child poverty, and other variables are still gory as indicators have shown.
During their various presentations, government officials from the two states noted that based on available data from MICS 2021 and NDHS 2024, in Health, nutrition, education, children protection, WASH and social policy, the two states must redouble efforts towards securing and enhancing the future of their children as indicators in most of the thematic areas are pathetic.
They noted that the overwhelming gaps across identified areas have drowned some of the land mark achievements recorded in some of the sectors like immunization, WASH and education.

Some of the challenges identified include dearth of funding, insufficient infrastructure, man power gaps, and cultural impediments.
These validations were made during a one day 2024 annual/programme review and 2025-27 work plan consultations organized by UNICEF in Yola on Thursday.
In view of the gaps and lapses identified, and to secure the lives of children, resource persons from UNICEF proffer roadmaps so as to enhance service delivery ahead of 2025-27.
They called for improved cooperation and synergy between development partners and the government, payment of counterpart funding as and when due, and enhanced private sector participation.
Others are; data driven policy formulation, strengthening food and social protection, putting in place climate resilient infrastructure, increase low level and high level advocacy, policy dialogues, supplementary immunization, enhance response and evolution of quality and reliable data.
Speaking on the rationale of the one day event, UNICEF Chief of field office, Bauchi field office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique noted that the goal was to take stock of what has been done so far so as to chart a pathway for enhanced service delivery.
She noted that considering the role of children to any nation, it becomes pertinent that issues affecting their well being and future are addressed for a sustainable future.
She thanked Adamawa and Taraba State governments as well as all the officials who made very critical inputs noting that their contributions will enhance service delivery in all the thematic areas.
Also speaking, the permanent secretary, Adamawa State planning commission, Hassan Modibbo and the executive secretary, Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Tukura Nyargwa thanked UNICEF for providing a platform for such important function.
They pledged to channel the takeaways to the respective state governments for necessary actions.
