Adamawa ADC guber candidate vows to address insecurity, revamp agriculture

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Adamawa State election, Engr. Omar Suleiman Omar, has outlined an ambitious agenda centred on agricultural transformation, rural infrastructure, security and youth development.
Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Yola, the former Nigerian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, popularly known as Omarana, said his administration would prioritise modernising agriculture to unlock the state’s economic potential if elected.
He described Adamawa as one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural states, stressing that the sector remains the backbone of the state’s economy and a critical driver of food security.

According to him, an ADC-led government would partner with agricultural professionals and extension experts to equip farmers with modern farming techniques, improve access to improved seedlings and ensure the timely distribution of subsidised fertilisers.
Suleiman also identified poor rural infrastructure as a major obstacle to agricultural productivity, promising to rehabilitate and construct rural roads to ease the movement of farm produce from villages to urban markets.
“We must make it easier for our farmers to transport their produce and access markets. Good roads are essential to reducing post-harvest losses and improving rural livelihoods,” he said.
On security, the ADC flag bearer said peace and safety were fundamental to sustainable development, pledging to work closely with federal security agencies and local stakeholders to strengthen the protection of lives, property and farming communities across the state.
He also promised to revive the sports sector, describing it as a strategic platform for youth empowerment, job creation and crime prevention.
According to Suleiman, increased investment in sporting facilities and talent development would provide young people with productive opportunities while helping to curb social vices, including drug abuse.
The former ambassador also addressed concerns over the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, dismissing reports suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had failed to recognise the party’s national leadership.
He maintained that the electoral commission recognises the leadership of former Senate President Senator David Mark and urged party supporters to disregard what he described as misinformation aimed at creating confusion within the party.
Reaffirming the ADC’s readiness for the 2027 governorship election, Suleiman called on the people of Adamawa State to support the party’s vision of inclusive governance and sustainable development.
He expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious at the polls, saying the ADC offers a credible alternative capable of addressing the state’s developmental challenges.
“We are presenting a people-oriented agenda that will improve agriculture, infrastructure, security and opportunities for our youths. With the support of the people, we are confident of delivering a better Adamawa,” he said.
