Political appointments: Lamurde PDP youth decry non-compliance with Fintiri’s directives

Youths and women from Lamurde local government area of Adamawa State have decried the non-compliance with governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s directives regarding political appointments saying that they were deliberately marginalized.

At a press conference held in Yola on Thursday, the youth accused some greedy old men of circumventing the governor’s directive to ensure only those who worked hard formed the list due to selfish reasons.

Spokesman of the youths, Ben Hoki called on the governor to disregard any such purported list from the so called stakeholders as it was prepared in total contravention of his directives.

“As representatives of the stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lamurde Local Government Area of the state, we have come to address this press conference on the overbearing and undemocratic behaviours of some few stakeholders from our area. The affected persons have usurped the powers of the rest of us to advance their greed.

“By so doing, they have defied the instructions of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, by conniving to raise the list of nominated persons from our local Government Area without recourse to the entire stakeholders. Besides acting in contempt to His Excellency’s directives, their action has also trampled on the principle of inclusiveness and undermined the tenets of democracy, which the PDP personifies,” Hoki said.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has a fortnight ago during a meeting of PDP stakeholders at government house Yola directed that stakeholders from each local government should constitute a 15-man list for placement or political appointment.

But expressing dismay over the blatant refusal of the stakeholders to comply with the directive Hoki said “unfortunately, in Lamurde Local Government, the directive was set aside with impunity.

Why The disgruntled Jimeta PDP Stakeholders Are After SSG

“This is because they colluded in a brazen display of highhandedness and produced the Lamurde list without according other senior stakeholders even a mere a benefit of consultation.

“They have greedily so, nominated either their own cronies or associates. In some cases, two brothers were nominated as well as overaged persons who have retired from the civil service also made their list, to the utter neglect of young and energetic people. They did so by closing their eyes to the youths who crisscrossed the entire local government to canvass votes that gave Governor Fintiri his well-deserved victory.

“This also amounts to contempt to the governor’s youth empowerment drive. We are therefore severely pained by this action because neglecting youths and women who formed the bulk of our electorate vault in this manner, runs counter to Governor Fintiri’s reward policy.

“To us and all persons of goodwill this is absolutely unacceptable because it promotes the ugly practice of “used and dump”, which our amiable governor abhors bitterly!

“Already, reacting to their action, stakeholders from some political wards in Lamurde Local Government have petitioned the State Secretariat of our party seeking its intervention.

“We, therefore, see their action as divisive, dangerous and capable of truncating our party’s chances in future elections. That’s why we would like to use this opportunity to appeal to the governor and other party leaders at the State level to wade into the matter.

“In conclusion, we insist that the list in untenable because it did not reflect our collective interest. Therefore, by this press conference, we declare the list null and void. Our demand is that the usurpers should withdraw the purported list immediately and desist from causing further disunity among our people.

“Accordingly, we urge our amiable and peace-loving governor to disregard the purported list of a few and issue a fresh directive for all stakeholders in Lamurde to converge and do the right thing in the interest of unity and inclusiveness. Thank you and God bless us all.”
