The Society for Women In Taxation (SWIT) has on Tuesday organized one day train the trainer workshop in Adamawa with a view to strengthen the capacity of members to carry out their responsibilities efficiently.

State coordinator of SWIT, Grace Benjamin thanked the Executive Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue Service, (BIRS) Yola for the financial Support towards hosting the workshop and encouraged members to use the knowledge acquired from the training to impact positively as SWIT rolls out it’s activities on Public Awareness for payment of Tax for the year 2023/2024.

Also speaking, the chairman Adamawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service, Hamma Adama Jabari, commended SWIT for taking giant strides within a short time and pledged to support it financially as it rolls out activities on tax enlightenment and tax payment in the state.

He noted that women constitute a large number of those in the informal sector expressing optimism that SWIT will compliment the efforts of Government at ensuring that law abiding citizens pay their tax as at when due.

During the training with the theme
“Taxing the informal Sector: The role of Women,” the trainees were groomed on the nuances and rudiments of tax enlightenment and reforms.

The society of Women in Taxation was formally inaugurated in Nigeria on 7th May 2010 as an arm of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) with a view to serve as an umbrella body of the female members of the Institute and to meet the yearnings and aspirations of women for recognition as a force to reckon with on Tax policy issues. SWIT will also serve as a vehicle for the promotion of socio-economic development of women.

The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), is a body of female members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) whose objectives are to identify with and assist the CITN to achieve its laudable objectives; empower women with the aim of reducing poverty as well as increase their disposable income and educate women in particular and the public in general on taxation and the necessity for paying taxes.

Adamawa State chapter of SWIT was inaugurated on 7/5/2023 at the Annual General Conference of CITN held in Abuja.

The SWIT’s core objectives is to be a
leading professional women association in Nigeria and to build a society that will promote the interest of Women in Tax Policy, Law, and Practice in furtherance of the aim of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
