Climate change mitigation: ACReSAL to build capacity of Borno communities
Communities in Borno State are to be provided with needed capacity under the ACReSAL Project supported by World Bank to alleviate the effects of climate-change and contain the challenges caused by drought, desertification and deforestation in the state.

Dr Ngare Dogo, the Director, Global Environmental Response Initiative (GERI), made this known during the ongoing sensitization and advocacy tour in Bama LGA where the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) of the area was inaugurated.

Dogo said that under the six years multi-sectoral World Bank supported project, the communities livelihood among others would also be enhanced.
Dogo who spoke on the objectives and vision of ACReSAL, sensitised stakeholders comprising traditional rulers, women and youth leaders on the need for adequate representations for maximum benefits of ACReSAL activities in the area.
Dogo noted the commitment of ACReSAL in supporting communities through training, capacity enhancement, issuance of interest free soft loans to boost their farming activities as well as linking them with the market for their products.
In his goodwill message, the Project Coordinator, Mr Ayuba Peter, represented by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Bukar Madu Goba, said that ACReSAL associated with enhancing farming activities, would ensure that farmers benefited immensely through financing, training, provision of farm inputs and implements.
He explained that such such support could help them migrate from being seasonal farmers to an all-year-round farmers.
He urged them to form registered trade associations in order to attract the loans accordingly.
He thanked the Transition Chairman of Bama, Aljaji Grema Terab for his support in mobilising the mammoth crowd and also the FONGO Consultant for doing a good job.
In his remarks, the Shehu of Bama, Umar Kyari Ibn EL-kanemi, who was represented by Alhaji Barma Adam, the Barma of Bama, thanked ACReSAL for bringing the viable project to his people which has been a their dream for years.
In his welcome speech, the Transition Chairman of Bama who described ACReSAL as an important project, said the project was in line with the policy thrust and 10-Point Agenda of the Gov. Babagana Zulum administration aimed at addressing environmental challenges bedevilling the state.
He said the coming of ACReSAL was timely and would be supported by the people.
The team also visited the Shehu of Bama Palace, where Dr Dogo briefed the royal father on the mission of ACReSAL.
The Shehu of Bama thanked the delegation for coming to Bama, and assured them of his support and cooperation towards the successful implementation of the ACReSAL project in the area.
