Bishop Mamza commissions primary school in IDP community
The Bishop of Yola diocese, Most Reverend Bishop Dami Mamza has commissioned, Missio Primary School at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) community aimed at giving the children of the IDPs a chance at education.
Mamza, who is also the chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Adamawa State chapter noted that the rationale behind establishing the school is to ensure that the vulnerable children are well educated so as to become responsible members of the community in the future.
The clergy man who urged parents to ensure the sustainability of the school noted that considering the importance of education in contemporary life, parents should ensure thorough vigilance and make good use of the facility for the betterment of the future of their wards especially considering the fact that the school is free in all sense of the word.
He thanked “Mission Take Heart” for building the school, providing instructional materials, books, uniforms and payment of staff emoluments.
Mamza noted that the reason for establishing the school is out of concern for humanity adding that in view of the challenges facing parents of the children who have been displaced as a result of insurgency, it became necessary to ensure their children are not left behind educationally.
The Bishop presented 150 pieces of school uniform, 150 pieces of sandals and socks, 12 exercise books for each of the pupils, text books for all subjects for primary 1 – 3, first aid box, staff room items such as chalks, detergents, pencils, pens, anticeptics and school bell.
In his goodwill message, the Divisional Inspection of Education in Girei local government, Abdullahi Ahidjo thanked Bishop Mamza for his indefatigable contributions to the development of Girei local government.
He noted that Girei LG will remain grateful for the deluge of projects the Bishop cited in the local government including housing and education projects.
He also urged the parents to own the school and ensure its maintenance for the benefit of the community.
Also speaking, the District Head of Girei,
Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Mustapha expressed happiness for the wonderful gesture by the Bishop noting that it will change the education landscape of Girei for the better.
Mustapha who was represented by Madawakin Girei Muhammad Baba Yahya urged stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and convivial environment in the school urging them to shun any form of ethnic or religious sentiment.
While calling on stakeholders to ensure peace and tranquility, in the community, he urged parents to do their best to sustain education so as to safeguard the future of the children.
Also speaking, the head teacher, Mathias Peter Ijampi thanked the Bishop for establishing the school expressing optimism that the school will function optimally in view of the good environment and availability of instructional materials.
He also urged parents to make good use of the school by ensuring that their children come to school on time and only leave after closing hours.
Our reporter reveals that the school which has three classrooms commences operation with 150 pupils.
