Modern farming techniques: IITA, USAID train 35,000 farmers in Adamawa
No fewer than 5,000 Farmers in each of the 7 local government areas of Adamawa State received training on modern farming techniques by the International Institute Of Tropical Agriculture IITA sponsored by USAID.
Azeez Oyeyemi, is the senior agronomist at IITA’s feed the future Nigeria integrated agriculture activity, disclosed this while Fielding questions from factcheckers reporters shortly after concluding the program across the 7 LGA’s of Adamawa state Northeast Nigeria.
He said the farmers had been exposed to crop varieties such as soyabean, maize, rice and cowpea in the areas.

“The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the IITA and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)” Oyeyemi added.
Mr Oyeyemi encouraged soyabean growers to plant certified and improved variety seeds due to its high yields and resistance to obstacles.
He also enjoined them to ensure proper application of fertiliser to ensure bumper harvest.
IITA demonstrated to the farmers the importance of applying new seed & fertilisers to the people of Yola-South, Fufore, Demsa, Hong, Guyuk, Song & and Gombi LGA’S within the last 10 days.
Some of the beneficiaries including Wulanga Andrew, village Head of Njoboli Fulani, Abubakar Bapetel and ward head of Sabon-Pegi Mal Buba Sa’idu commended and thanked IITA for their kind gesture.
