The session which was anchored by the state lead of NBAWF, Fatima Bello Raji enumerated some of the challenges facing female lawyers and vowed to fight them head on in order to chart a seamless career path especially for budding female lawyers.

Some of the challenges and constraints faced by the female lawyers as identified by Miss Ruth Mba and Nana Ali in their separate presentations, include, cultural and social stereotypes, gender biases, sexual harassment, and hostile working environment.

The women lawyers vowed to champion the course of the NBAWF by creating an enabling and supportive work environment for female lawyers to thrive in the profession. They also vowed to support the female lawyers through training and retraining and putting in place robust policies to ensure their safety and protection while pursing a law career.

The NBAWF was first birthed in 2006 under the leadership of Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) during his tenure as the national president of NBA, but the association went moribund as a result of weak structure base.

The compelling need to have a women forum of the NBA led to the reincarnation of the NBAWF in 2015 and since then it has moved from strength to strength.

While giving an overview of the NBAWF in Adamawa, the state lead, Barr. Fatima Bello Raji said the 17-member strong forum was inaugurated in April 2022 where she was appointed the state lead and Hafsat Abdullahi became the branch facilitator.

She noted that since inauguration, the NBAWF has carried out a number of activities including paying courtesy visits on Justice Nathan Musa, the immediate past Chief Judge of Adamawa State and Attorney General of the state, Afraimu Jingi.

Raji said in 2022, the Attorney General of the state, sponsored five female lawyers to attend the second national conference of NBAWF.

According to her, the NBAWF also visited the female wing of Yolde Pate correctional facility on 14 April 2023 where they offered probono legal services to the inmates and presented some relief package to them.
