The North Eastern States of Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno States, the franchise area of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) have been experiencing prolonged black out as a result of the destruction of a portion of the national grid supplying electricity to the area.

Hamman who contested for Adamawa central senatorial seat in the last election said, as a leader he cannot seat back while his people and by extension the people of the north east are facing electricity deprivations.

“I want to strongly appeal on our amiable president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good office to compel TCN to restore power to the north east to save the region from an imminent economic catastrophe.

“I came all the way from Yola to Bauchi this morning for an on the spot assessment of the damage inflicted on the TCN facilities and to push for the restoration of electricity so that our people can have some respite.

“A number of businesses are going down, lives and livelihoods are incapacitated by this prolonged power outage while the economy of the north east is fast collapsing. That is why I took the gauntlet as a political leader to use my reach to push for the restoration of power for the benefit of our people.

“Again I was compelled to do so following the lethargy of our elected representatives to take the matter up despite the monumental impact of the issue on our economy,” he said.

When asked to comment on the progress of work, Hamman who expressed satisfaction with the resolve of TCN to commence repairs on the damaged portion called on the company to deploy more staff to site to meet its May 27, 2024 deadline for the completion of repairs.

“I’m happy that TCN is not sleeping on the matter but based on the progress of work we have seen, the company needs to deploy more personnel to meet it’s set deadline. We will remain vigilant until the right thing is done for the good of our people,” he added.

The politician who expressed disappointment with some utterances of the minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu who threatened Nigerians over power tariff hike urged president Tinubu to relive him of duty because he has no mental and emotional capacity to run the all important office.
