AGM meeting: FMC B-Kudu cooperative society saves over N590m in 16 years

The thrift and Cooperative Society of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State says the group has in the last 16 years saved N591.8million from the individual worker monthly contributions.

Malam Aminu Ado Taura, the Chairman of the cooperative made the disclosure in Birnin Kudu on Monday while addressing hundreds of members during the Annual General Meeting of the Cooperative.

According to him, the cooperative was formed with the 15 pioneer members, saying that today its membership has blossom to 407 members drawn from different departments and units of the hospital.

“We do give one million naira loan to interested members of staff without any interest attached to it” he said.

“We had in 2019 procured N20 million worth Xray machine and constructed a befitting patient relatives shelter within the hospital as part of our corporate social responsibility” he added.

Taura added that the cooperative has within the period under review orientated and exposed many members to invest their money in various lucrative ventures which would sustain them after retirement from the active service.

He explained that the society has provided car,housing and investment loans to deserving members,stressing we are fully committed and determined to sustain the tempo.

He commended all registered members of the cooperative for their understanding and commitment which made the cooperative one of the best nationwide.

Earlier in his remarks, the Medical Director of the Center Dr Adamu Abdullahi Atterwharmie has lauded the management of the cooperative for their dungeness, hard work and transparent way of doing things.

He assured that the center would continue to support such initiatives that are geared towards promotion of the staff welfare while calling on members to always remit their contributions to existing cooperatives within the center.

“Membership of cooperative societies enhances and promote workers welfare as an individual worker has the right to invest his contributions for the future,” he said.

The state Director of cooperatives Alhaji Nasir Garba Ringim and the state Director of tourism development Alhaji Mohammed Isah, jointly commended the society for being meticulous in their activities.

In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse Alhaji Hamim Nuhu Sunusi who doubles as the grand patron of the cooperative has described the multi purpose cooperative society as the best of its kind considering the quantum of savings and their investment drive especially on their members.

The Royal farther advised the management of the Cooperative to establish cooperative shop where essential goods would be sold to the workers and even those who are not members at affordable price.

Our correspondent reports that highlights of the event were the formal inauguration of the multi million naira cooperative secretariat complex and the swearing Inn of the newly elected members who would pilot the affairs of the group for the next two years.
