Flood: CCN sympathizes with residents of Maiduguri
A group under the aegis of the Concerned Citizens of the Northeast (CCN) has expressed deep shock, sadness over the catastrophic flooding which ravaged Maiduguri recently.
A statement signed by the secretary general of the organization Babangida Mohammed said the incident has inflicted tremendous hardship on the populace of the ancient city urging for concrete measures to prevent similar events in the future.

“We, the Concerned Citizens of the Northeast express our profound sorrow over the flooding incident that transpired in Maiduguri today, significantly impacting numerous families and communities. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered losses of their homes, possessions, and means of livelihood in this tragic event.
“This distressing occurrence highlights the pressing necessity for proactive strategies to tackle the vulnerabilities faced by our region concerning severe weather phenomena, especially flooding. We strongly urge the Borno State Government and all relevant authorities to work together to help those affected. Access to clean water, shelter, medical care, and food supplies must be prioritized to mitigate additional hardship.
“Moreover, we advocate for thoroughly assessing the region’s drainage systems and other preventive infrastructures. Flooding has emerged as a persistent challenge in Maiduguri and various areas of the Northeast, making it essential to implement long-term solutions to reduce future risks. Environmental planning and urban development should be directed towards enhancing the region’s resilience against such natural disasters.
“We acknowledge the commendable efforts of local volunteers, emergency services, and humanitarian organizations who have promptly responded to this incident. We encourage our fellow citizens to continue providing support in any capacity to alleviate the burden on those affected.
“As we navigate this challenging period collectively, let us also recognize the significance of unity and resilience amid adversity. We remain committed to collaborating with the government, non-governmental organizations, and all stakeholders to ensure that our region is better equipped for future emergencies.
