Golden jubilee: FCE Yola one of the best education training institutions in Nigeria – Prof Dukku
In the last 50 years of its establishment, the Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola has transformed to a towering giant among sister education training institutions, Professor Muhammad Gurama Dukku has disclosed.
Dukku who is the guest lecturer of the pre-convocation/50th anniversary lecture noted that through excellence, commitment and serious investment, the college has within the period etched its name in gold.

He added that through the years, the College has transformed from a middle level teacher training institution to a towering teacher training institution that has surpassed many of its peers.
Dukku added that in the last 50 years, the institution which enrolled only 68 students at inception has graduated no fewer than 40,522 and still counting.
“The FACT Yola commenced its academic activities in the 1975/76 session when it admitted its maiden set of 68 NCE students with 11 NCE programmes.
“In all FCE Yola has produced some 40, 522 NCE graduands since its inception five decades ago. This is certainly a phenomenal achievement and a significant contribution to the development of teacher education in Nigeria,” he said.
While recognizing some of the factors responsible for the seismic successes attained by the college, the university don noted that serious investment made by successive governments from the 1970s, reforms in the education sector, dedicated workforce, development of infrastructure, enthusiastic governing councils and goal oriented provosts all contributed to the landmark strides recorded by the institution.
He noted that with the landmark strides it recorded “FCE Yola has no doubt paid its dues” in the teacher production business.
“From the wide range of a academic programmes (94 currently) cutting across the Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Science and vocational subjects, FCE Yola has fully matured and has become a towering giant among teacher education training institutions.
“In order to smoothly run these wide arrays of programmes at both NCE and undergraduate levels, the college has assembled and nurtured a large team of dedicated teaching workforce. A total of 415 teaching staff cut across all the existing academic ranks and qualifications in the college.
“Of the 415, teaching staff 141 belong to the top senior cadres of chief lecturer (71), Principal lecturer (40) and senior lecturer (30); 109 are lecturers I & II; while 155 lecturer III and assistant lecturer from the bottom cadre.
“FCE Yola has also during the period of its existence recorded great improvements not just in programmes expansion but in physical infrastructural development ranging from lecture rooms, laboratories, offices, library development and host of others,” he said.
