Bishop Mamza inaugurates new Diocesan Pastoral, Laity councils
The Bishop of Yola Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza has today inaugurated the newly Diocesan Pastoral and laity councils of the church with a charge on them to work extra hard to facilitate the spread of the gospel.
The cleric who projected 2025 as the year of hope and salvation expressed optimism that the year will usher in great tidings.

“Today we celebrated the feast of the presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple when his parents went and presented him and offer thanksgiving to God.
“Today, the holy Father Pope Francis declared the year of jubilee which he tagged as the year of hope. And we supposed to celebrate it on 29th December, but for Pastoral and other reasons we couldn’t do it. Today we also officially celebrated the mass for the begining of the year of hope which is the jubilee year so it is a combined celebration,” he said.
He noted that in the last three days, the church was fully engaged in meetings with the members of the Diocesan laity council and Diocesan Pastoral council culminating into the emergence of the new excos.
“For the past three days we have been having meeting with the members of the Diocesan laity council and Diocesan Pastoral council. We arrived on Friday, we had full day yesterday and today is the closing mass for the annual meeting.
“This is a very big day for us. Today we inaugurated the officials of the Diocesan Pastoral council, the Diocesan laity council in order to function for the next four years. In the whole church in Nigeria elections are done in December and inauguration takes place between January and February.
“My message to the newly elected leadership of the laity council is for them to avail themselves to serve the church faithfully and generously. We need their time, their talent and resources to serve the church and by the fact that they have decided to be members of the laity council and even officials that means that they are ready to work.
“We pray that they will be committed and dedicated for the next four years so they they will make their contribution in the spread of the gospel,” he added.
He called on the federal government to up its ante in the war against all sort of crimes so that farmers can have full access to their farmlands so as to address the food insecurity and hunger bedeviling the nation.
“If we are assured of security, we will be able to produce enough food. The reason for the hunger even in rural areas is because of insecurity let the government address the insecurity and also support farmers with incentives to enhance food security,” he added.
