Bishop Mamza commissions solar powered industrial borehole in Adamawa community
• Donates Christmas clothes to hundreds of children
A spontaneous jubilation has greeted the commissioning of a solar powered industrial borehole at Tashar Turmi in Girei LG of Adamawa State by the Bishop of Yola Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza on Friday.
The sleepy town has through the years suffered acute lack of portable water depending on the only source of water which is a contaminated pond shared by both humans and animals in the community.
Expressing the happiness of the people, a community leader, Pastor Samuel Peter said the commissioning of the water project marked a milestone in the community noting that it will surely end the travails of the community, give it a life line and prevent the people from the incessant water borne diseases and infections.
He said as a result of the usage of contaminated water, the residents have been exposed to various water ailments including diarrhea, skin diseases and even miscarriages by pregnant women.
“This community has suffered a lot as a result of lack of water. Diseases such as diarrhea, skin rashes and even miscarriages have become very rampant. When the scourge of miscarriage became worrying, a medical study was conducted which reveals that the scourge was caused by the usage of contaminated water,”
Re-echoing the position of Pastor Peter, Bishop Mamza said he was attracted by the rampant complaints of illnesses, water induced miscarriages and other ailments to come to the aid of the people through the construction of the borehole.
He thanked Justice Development and Peace Commission, Yola Catholic Diocese and Mission Take Heart for the laudable project.
He enjoined the government, corporate bodies and spirited individuals to also contribute in providing essential services to underserved communities.
The Bishop also urged parents to ensure that their children go to school adding that education is the bedrock of all development.
The Bishop used the occasion to donate Christmas clothes to the teeming children of the community.
