Gamu community honours Bishop Mamza with traditional title
The Gamu community in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State has honoured the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, with a traditional Chamba title in recognition of his outstanding service to humanity and contributions to peace and development.
During a colourful ceremony attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, and well-wishers on Sunday, Bishop Mamza was conferred with the Chamba title, Su’uneksiri, which means “God has honoured us with correction.”

The title symbolizes the community’s appreciation for his moral leadership and relentless advocacy for unity, justice, and compassion across religious and ethnic lines.
In a symbolic gesture of acceptance, Bishop Mamza was adorned in full traditional Chamba regalia, an act that received applause and admiration from all present, emphasizing the deep cultural significance of the honour.
The title was officially bestowed by His Royal Highness, Aliyu Yusuf Manga, the Gangwari of Dakka, accompanied by the Gara of Kungana, Theophilus Abubakar Ahmadu—two revered monarchs from the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State. Their presence highlighted the inter-state and inter-community respect Bishop Mamza has earned through years of dedicated service.
Speaking at the event, a representative of the Gamu community, Patricia, praised the Bishop for his tireless commitment to promoting harmony, social welfare, and moral guidance across Adamawa State. She noted that his impact transcends religious and ethnic boundaries.
“As a community, we acknowledge and deeply appreciate the remarkable contributions of Bishop Mamza to humanity.
“Your selfless service has touched lives across our state, regardless of tribe or religion. You have been a beacon of hope and a voice of truth in times of challenge,” She said.
She further emphasized that the honour was a collective expression of gratitude from the Gamu people, who view Bishop Mamza not only as a religious leader but also as a moral compass in a time of national uncertainty.
In response, Bishop Mamza expressed gratitude for the gesture, pledging to continue serving with integrity and love. He thanked the Gamu community and the traditional leaders for the honour, reaffirming his commitment to foster peace and inclusivity.
