Bishop Mamza lays foundation for the construction of 2,000-seat church in Gamu
Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza of the Catholic Diocese of Yola has laid the foundation for a 2,000-seat church in Gamu, located in the Ganye local government area of Adamawa State.
This significant project is being funded by Patricia in memory of her beloved father, Emmanuel Jauro Gamu.

The event commenced with a heartfelt 40-day memorial Mass, during which Bishop Mamza spoke passionately about the importance of love, unity, and peaceful coexistence within our communities.
Reflecting on the painful history of divisions between Christians and Muslims, he shared, “In the past, Catholics and Protestants faced strife, and Christians and Muslims found themselves embroiled in conflicts that led to the loss of lives and property.
However, times have changed, and we must embrace peace, unity, and love for one another, regardless of our religious backgrounds.”
Bishop Mamza emphasized that the teachings of Jesus Christ are meant for all of humanity, not just for Christians. He reminded everyone of the critical need to prioritize our shared humanity and extend love beyond borders.
He also highlighted instances of kindness across faiths, noting that Muslims were among the first to reach out and congratulate him when the new Pope was elected.
“This is the essence of what we are called to practice: religious tolerance and love for every individual,” he affirmed.
Addressing the challenging state of the nation, Bishop Mamza urged the congregation to remain vigilant against the exploitation of poverty by corrupt politicians who incite religious conflict while living comfortably in Abuja.
He encouraged everyone to rise above local political disputes and reject the divide-and-rule tactics that seek to separate us.
He poignantly acknowledged how corruption has, far too often, eroded the very fabric of our society.
In a moment of reverence, Bishop Mamza prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Baba Emmanuel Jauro and expressed admiration for Patricia and her family.
Their courageous decision to build a church in their father’s memory is a profound testament to their faith and love.
“What you are embarking upon is truly a service to both God and humanity. I wholeheartedly encourage you to remain steadfast and committed to this beautiful project,” he said.
In a vote of thanks, Patricia commended Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, the traditional rulers and all those who attended the occasion.
Patricia also provided scholarships to several students and pupils in Gamu, as well as housing assistance and training for selected women in Ganye chiefdom on modern methods of making charcoal.
