Relief as FG formally hands cover Alau Dam reconstruction to contractor

It’s a big relief to the Government and people of Borno State as the Federal Government formally handed over the reconstruction of Alau Dam to Infioquest International Limited.

The dam experienced a breakdown last year leading to serious flooding of Maiduguri city and environs where many lives were lost and property worth billions of  Naira destroyed.

The state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, had in their comments during the El-el-Kabir celebrations stressed the need to accelerate the rehabilitation and expansion of the dam to avert a repeat of last year’s devastating flood disaster.

In a statement on the reconstruction of the Dam from the Information Unit of Chad Basin Development Authority, issued by the Public Relations Officer,  Bukar Alibe, said a Federal Delegation had on Tuesday handed over the work to INFIOUEST INTERNATIONAL LIMITED, as part of the project’s formal transition process.

According to the statement, the delegation was led by the Director of Dams and Drainages, Engr. Ali Ibrahim Dallah, who represented the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. (Engr.) Joseph Terlumun Utsev.

The statement described the formal  handing over to the contractor a crucial milestone in the project’s development.

Some residents of Maiduguri and environs that have been yearning for the reconstruction to commence, described the development as a welcome relief.
