Adamawa ADC dismisses illegal dissolution, by nat’l chair, affirms unity, legitimacy
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has dismissed claims by the party’s National Chairman regarding the dissolution of its state executive, describing the action as unconstitutional and a breach of the party’s internal procedures.
Addressing a world press conference on Friday, in Yola, the State Chairman of the ADC, Comrade Shehu Yohanna, declared that the leadership structure of the party in Adamawa remains intact, united, and fully functional.

“The National Chairman acted unilaterally and without constitutional backing,” Yohanna stated. “As a member of the National Executive Council (NEC), I can confirm that there has been no NEC meeting or constitutional amendment authorizing such a dissolution. His actions are political and lack legitimacy.”
The press briefing comes amid growing internal tensions within the party and heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections. Yohanna used the opportunity to welcome new members of the Nigeria National Opposition Coalition (NNOC), who recently adopted the ADC as their political platform.
According to Yohanna, the influx of new members demonstrates the rising influence and relevance of the ADC both in Adamawa and across the country. “We are growing stronger by the day. The leadership of ADC in Adamawa remains valid. No member has resigned, and our tenure continues until December 2026.”
Reiterating the party’s commitment to due process and democratic principles, Yohanna announced that the ADC will fully participate in the upcoming bye-election in Ganye Local Government Area. The party will conduct its primaries between July 14 and 17, 2025, in accordance with INEC’s electoral guidelines.
“We are focused on building a strong, inclusive, and effective party,” Yohanna said. “We urge all members—both old and new—to uphold the constitution of the ADC and work within the existing structures to ensure victory in 2027.”
The event concluded with an open question-and-answer session, reflecting the party’s continued commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and public engagement.
