Adamawa ADC chieftain Calculate dismisses Arabi’s chairmanship claim

• Says confusion deliberately contrived to sabotage former VP

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Mr. Umar Bello Jada, popularly known as “Calculate”, has strongly debunked claims circulating in some quarters that INEC said Muhammad Arabi Mustapha remains the chairman of the party in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists, Jada clarified that the national leadership of the ADC, through its highest decision-making organs, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC), has already replaced Arabi Mustapa with Comrade Shehu Yohanna as the substantive Chairman of Adamawa State Chapter of the party.

According to him, this decision has been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has duly acknowledged receipt on 17 January 2024.

Jada emphasized that any contrary assertion suggesting that Arabi still holds the position amounts to “wishful thinking.”

He accused certain political elements of deliberately working in cahoots with the federal and state government to stoke confusion within the ADC in a calculated attempt to sabotage the political influence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his home state.

“There are subterranean moves by some political jobbers to destabilize the party structure in Adamawa, all aimed at weakening Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s influence. We know very well the interests they are serving. But these saboteurs and crisis merchants will be put to shame,” he said.

Reacting to the circulation of what he described as “fraudulent documents,” Jada urged the public not to be misled by claims that Arabi is still the legitimate chairman.

“No one should be confused with the fraudulent documents being passed around as certified true copies. The facts are clear and verifiable. Arabi was replaced by Yohana Shehu with the full authority of the NEC and NWC of our party,” he stated.

Jada referenced a letter from the national leadership of the ADC to INEC headquarters in Abuja, which listed leadership changes in five states, including Adamawa. He noted that INEC not only received but acknowledged the appointment of Shehu Yohanna as the new chairman of the Adamawa chapter with effect from 13th January 2023 by the pronouncement of NWC/NEC of the party

He further explained that Muhammad Arabi Mustapha never challenged his removal either by petitioning INEC or approaching the courts within the period since the leadership transition took place. “For all that long period of 20 months, Arabi never raised a voice, never wrote to INEC, and never took legal action. Only now, when certain fraudulent politicians have approached him to do their dirty deal that he suddenly coming back to laying claim to an office he knows he no longer occupies,” Jada said.

He described Arabi’s actions as fraudulent and aligned with forces working to derail the stability of the ADC in Adamawa for selfish political purposes. “These people are not interested in the growth of the ADC or democracy. They want to impose their evil agenda and damage the political standing of Atiku Abubakar,” he concluded.

Jada reaffirmed that the party stands solidly behind Comrade Shehu Yohanna’s leadership and urged supporters to disregard distractions and remain focused ahead of the 2027 elections.
