Fayemi media office denies viral claim linking Ex-Gov to ADC coalition formation
The media office of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, has dismissed as false a viral claim attributing to Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, the statement that both men founded the new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition before its expansion to include others.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi’s Media Office, Abuja, the team said thorough checks revealed no credible evidence to support the claim, which has circulated widely on social and digital media platforms.
“Despite efforts to verify this statement, we have found no video of Hon. Amaechi making such remarks or any report from reputable media organisations. It is possible the statement was fabricated or Hon. Amaechi was misquoted,” Sajoh stated.

The media office described the allegation as baseless, stressing that Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. It added that the former governor has, on multiple occasions, reaffirmed his dedication to the party’s progressive ideals and is actively supporting the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the APC gubernatorial ticket.
The statement further noted that Fayemi’s broad network of friends and associates across political, religious, ethnic, and regional divides often draws him into national conversations on governance and democracy. However, it clarified that such engagements should not be misconstrued as political defections.
“Dr. Fayemi has the courage to pursue his convictions. If he were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so,” the statement read.
Addressing speculation about his political visibility, the media office explained that Fayemi’s reduced national profile is due to his ongoing roles as a visiting professor at King’s College London and founder of the Amandla Institute. Nonetheless, it stressed that at the state level, he remains actively engaged in APC activities, regularly attending leadership caucus meetings and publicly endorsing the governor’s candidacy.
The statement urged Nigerians to treat any news about Fayemi with caution, especially if it originates solely from social media souces.
