EU-RoLAC, UNFPA, UNHCR bag merit award in Yola
The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme, UNFPA and UNHCR have each been honoured with a merit award by the Adamawa State Ministry of Women and Social Development (MWSD) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the welfare, empowerment, and protection of women and children in the state.
The EU-RoLAC award was presented to Hapsat Hamma Abdullahi, Adamawa State Coordinator of RoLAC II, who received it on behalf of the National Programme Manager, Mr. Danladi Plang, during an event marking the International Day of the Girl Child at Rumde Primary School, Yola North on Friday.
In her remarks, Abdullahi described the award as “humbling and inspiring,” noting that it was a testament to the programme’s enduring commitment to social justice and inclusion.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude to receive this merit award for advancing the welfare, empowerment, and protection of women and children in Adamawa State. This recognition fuels our commitment to continue advocating for equality, justice, inclusion, and empowerment,” Abdullahi said.
She extended appreciation to International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA), the European Union, and boundary partners for their continued collaboration, emphasizing that the achievement was the result of collective effort.
“We share this honour with our incredible I-IDEA team, boundary partners, and the resilient women and children we work with. Their courage inspires us daily,” she added.
The event, which began with a road show rally from the Old Market to Rumde Primary School, was led by the Majority Leader of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Kate Mamuno. The colourful procession drew participants from various sectors, underscoring the shared commitment to promote the rights and wellbeing of the girl child.
Dignitaries present include; representatives from the Office of the Wife of the Governor, Adamawa State Planning Commission, Bureau of Public Procurement, Civil Service Commission, and the Vice Chairman of Yola North LGA.
Development partners and civil society organizations such as UNFPA, UNHCR, GZI, and Noor Foundation were also honoured at the ceremony for their contributions to women’s empowerment and child protection initiatives across the state.
The celebration highlighted the growing synergy between government, donor agencies, and communities in advancing gender equality and ensuring a safer, more inclusive environment for girls and vulnerable groups in Adamawa.
