After years of inaction, Adamawa police reopens acid attack case over mounting public outcry
The Adamawa State Police Command has announced the reopening of the disturbing and widely reported 2023 acid attack case as public indignation and request for accountability mounts.
The renewed effort to uncover those responsible for the brutal incident that left three victims including Miss Eve Usman Kwala, severely injured recently regained public attention over the failure of the police to bring the victims to justice years after the gruesome crime which completely left the victims in eternal pain and discomfort was committed.

In a statement, the Command acknowledged the growing public outcry and media attention surrounding the unresolved case, which had long lingered without any arrests or conclusive investigative breakthroughs.
The incident, described as one of the most disturbing acts of violence reported in the state in recent years, saw the victims suffer life-altering burns after unknown assailants attacked them with a corrosive substance.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the attack was duly reported in 2023, but despite initial efforts, no suspect was successfully apprehended.
He noted that the resurgence of public interest, emotional appeals from victims, and calls for justice from concerned citizens have now prompted the command to revisit the case with fresh determination.
He said the commissioner of police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive review of the case file by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigations.
The renewed probe, according to the statement, will involve reassessing earlier findings, re-examining all human and material evidence, and inviting new leads that may shed light on the identity and motive of the perpetrators.
The police pledged to identify, trace, and thoroughly investigate all individuals linked directly or indirectly to the attack including pursuit of new angles that may not have been explored during the initial investigation.
Nguroje said the Commissioner has also directed that all perpetrators, once identified, must be arrested and prosecuted diligently.
The Police Command urged members of the public to provide any information that could aid detectives, assuring that all such disclosures would be handled with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice, the command noted that crimes of this nature must never be overlooked, stressing that the reopening of the case represents a significant step toward accountability and closure for the victims and their families.
The police assured residents that they remain steadfast in safeguarding lives and ensuring that no criminal act no matter how long it was committed goes unpunished.
