Police debunk reported beheading of Adamawa CAN chair
The Adamawa State Police Command has dismissed as false and inciting a viral social media post alleging that the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state was beheaded by Fulani terrorists.
The report came amidst a growing anxiety after the US government designated Nigeria as a country of concern (CPC) over reported genocide of Christians in Nigeria.

In response, the US government has pledged to take swift military action against Nigerian in order to reverse the ugly development.
But Adamawa State Police command via a statement issued on Saturday, November 8, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, described the report, which originated from a Facebook user identified as Lionman Lioni, as a deliberate attempt to cause panic, tension, and religious disaffection among residents.
“The Command wishes to categorically refute this malicious claim in its entirety. There is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, urged members of the public to disregard the fake report and desist from spreading unverified information capable of undermining peace and security in the state.
He emphasized that the Command remains committed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all residents, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.
Nguroje further disclosed that the police have launched an investigation to track down and prosecute those behind the false publication, warning that the Command will not tolerate attempts to incite violence through the misuse of social media.
The police appealed to residents to always confirm sensitive information from credible sources before sharing it online, noting that spreading unverified claims could have grave consequences for communal harmony.
