New year: Yohanna greets Nigerians, calls for peace, participatory democracy
The Adamawa State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Shehu Yohanna, has expressed deep solidarity with Nigerians, urging citizens across the country to remain law-abiding and committed to peace, unity and harmonious coexistence.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Yohanna emphasized that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and respect for the rule of law.

He called on Nigerians, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliations, to continue to uphold civic responsibility and avoid actions capable of undermining national stability.
The ADC chairman further urged Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process as the country gradually moves towards the 2027 general elections.
According to him, citizens have a critical role to play in shaping the nation’s future by engaging peacefully in voter registration, political discourse and elections.
Yohanna said meaningful participation in the electoral process would provide Nigerians with the opportunity to express their will and effect the change they desire.
He stressed that democracy thrives when the people are fully involved and vigilant, adding that voter apathy only strengthens poor governance.
He also expressed optimism that the ADC presents a viable alternative capable of delivering responsible leadership to Nigerians.
In this regard, he called on citizens to support efforts aimed at supplanting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, noting that a change in leadership would help redirect the country towards better governance, accountability and inclusive development.
Speaking further, the Adamawa ADC chairman vowed to enthrone internal party politics and rule of law in the party promising to strictly adhere to due process in all party activities, particularly in the selection of candidates.
He noted that transparent, credible and inclusive processes are essential for producing strong, popular and competent candidates who can inspire confidence among Nigerians.
According to Yohanna, internal democracy within the ADC will not only strengthen the party but also make the task of transitioning power from the APC to the ADC in 2027 more achievable.
He therefore called on party stakeholders to close ranks, promote unity and work collectively towards building a formidable political platform capable of winning elections and delivering good governance.
Yohanna reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to democratic values, peaceful political engagement and national progress, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in their pursuit of a better Nigeria.
