Adamawa PDP in huge setback as Sen Yaroe exits party
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has suffered a significant setback following the resignation of Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Yaroe’s departure comes at a time when the party in the state is already grappling with mounting internal pressures and speculations surrounding the possible defection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter dated February 19, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Mayo-Belwa (Mbilla) Ward in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Senator Yaroe formally withdrew his membership from the PDP with immediate effect. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Local Government and State Chairmen of the party.
The senator cited what he described as the “fractured state” of the PDP at the national level as the primary reason for his decision. He expressed disappointment over the party’s internal crises, stating that the party had chosen a path of self-destruction.
“After many years of fruitful journey as a committed member of PDP, it pains me that PDP has elected to self-destruct at the national level,” Yaroe said in a statement accompanying his resignation.
“In consequence, I have very little choice than to withdraw my membership of the party at this point,” he said.
Yaroe, a two-term senator elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023 under the PDP platform, acknowledged the opportunities the party gave him to represent the people of Adamawa South.
He thanked the PDP for the support that enabled his electoral victories but wished the party success in its efforts to rebuild and repair its internal challenges.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration, Yaroe has been one of the most prominent PDP figures from Adamawa State.
His exit adds to a growing list of high-profile defections that have recently hit the party in the state.
Notable figures who have recently left the PDP include former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Idi Hong, and House of Representatives member Kobis Ari Thimnu. With rumors of Governor Fintiri’s potential defection still in the works, the PDP faces an uncertain political future in Adamawa.
As of press time, Senator Yaroe has not publicly disclosed his next political move or indicated whether he will join another party.
