FMC B/kudu observes World pharmaceutical day, calls for vigilance in healthcare delivery
The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Birnin Kudu chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Jigawa State has identified Pharrmaco vigilance as panacea to the adverse effects of drugs in patients.

Pharm, Alhassan Abba Abubakar made this known at the premises of FMC Birnin Kudu to mark the 2024 World Pharmcists Day in Birnin kudu on Wednesday .
He said the aim of pharmacovigillance was to improve patients care and safety ,public health ,contribute to the benefits, harm, effectiveness and risk of medicines.
He added that Pharmaco vigillance, promote understanding, education and clinical training especially among the health professionals.
” We need pharmaco vigilance for humanitarian concern, promoting rational utilization of drugs and adherence to ethics” he said.
According to him, the knowledge of pharmaco vigilance enables detection of the harmful effect of some drugs .
“Pharmaco vigilance gives room for adjusting dose of the object drugs and adverse drugs reaction in patients he added’
“It also provides the patients with the knowledge on the risk involved on the adverse effects of some drugs”
Earlier in his remarks, the hospital Deputy head of clinical services , Dr. Yunus Eze, has commended the society for finding time to observed the global Day.
He said the role of pharmaco vigilance can never be overemphasised due its importance on health care delivery activities.
Eze, said the management of the facility would continue to support such initiatives geared towards increasing awareness and training and retraining of staff for optimal performance.
Responding, Pharm, Abdurrasheed Mohsmmed, the center head of pharmacy department announced that the management has recently trained a staff who would be heading the pharmaco vigilance unit of the hospital.
Mr. Ali Bulus -Mshelia, the State NAFDAC coordinator, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Adam, the agency’s desk officer on pharmaco vigilance has advised the management of the hospital to establish a committee that would be overseeing the pharmaco vigilance activities .
Highlight of the event were the questions and answer sessions, comments and observations on the relevance of the topic discussed which was attended by hundreds of hospital staffs drawn from existing departments of the center.
