2. It is with a deep sense of solidarity and compassion that I stand before you today on behalf of the League of Northern Democrats. The LND is a recently formed group of patriots from all parts of the North united to shape and influence Nigeria’s politics and power dynamics for regional and national development. We are here to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Borno State in the aftermath of the devastating floods that have brought untold hardship to our brothers and sisters in Maiduguri and environs. The loss of lives, destruction of homes and the outbreak of diseases that have followed in the wake of this disaster are a great tragedy that has touched us all.

3. Your Excellency, Governor Zulum, we commend your tireless efforts in leading the state’s response to this catastrophe. Your swift and determined actions in the face of such adversity have been a source of hope and reassurance to the people of Borno. You have shown remarkable leadership, along side with your team, in mobilizing resources and ensuring that those most affected are not left behind.

4. We also pay tribute to His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, for his steadfast leadership and guidance during these challenging times. His role in providing moral and spiritual support has been invaluable in offering comfort and unity to the people as they navigate this difficult period.

5. At the League of Northern Democrats, we firmly believe that in times of crisis, collaboration and cooperation are essential. It is this belief that has driven our members to contribute a total of N50 million to support the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities. We recognize that no single entity can address such challenges alone. It is through the collective action of government, traditional institutions, the business community, civil society and indeed the general public that we can overcome this disaster and rebuild the lives of our people.

6. The League stands ready to assist your administration and other key stakeholders in ensuring that more reliefs come your way so as to reach those in need and that sustainable solutions are found to prevent such disasters in the future. We hope that this little contribution of ours will help in whatever little way in easing the immediate burden and serve as a reminder that, in moments of crisis, we are all stronger together.

7. While we pray to Almighty Allah to forestall this kind of tragedy from ever occurring again in the future, we further pray that He will continue to guide and bless your efforts, and He may grant the people of Borno the strength and courage to overcome this hardship and emerge even stronger. Ameen ya Allah.

8. Thank you.
