Golden jubilee: FCE Yola awards 11, launches book in honour of pioneer provost
The Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola has honoured eleven personalities for distinguished and dedicated service to education and humanity to mark the golden jubilee of the institution.
The college also launched a book in honour of the pioneer provost of the college, late Professor Gidado Tahir.

Disclosing the rationale for the investiture of the awards on the eleven personalities, the provost of the college Professor Muhammed Usman Degereji noted that it is in recognition of the contributions of the awardees towards the development of the college, education and humanity in general.
Our correspondent reports that those who were honored include; Late Ahmed Joda, Late Alhaji Ahmadu Ribadu, Prof. Jubril Aminu, late Professor Muhammad Gidado Tahir, Late Professor Samuel Aleyideino and Professor Peter Lassa.
Others are; Late Alhaji Abubakar Iya Abbas, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, Late Mal. Musa Yusuf Waziri, Late Mrs Asabe Mamman and Late Mal. Abdullahi Maikano Tafida.
He noted that the college also deemed it fit to honour the pioneer provost of the college in recognition of the excellent roles he played in the development of the college and education in general.
He said the book is a compendium of articles written by mentees, scholars, and associates of the late education sage.
Degereji said the college is planning to also build a resource center in honor of the pioneer provost which is intended to serve as center for research in Nigeria and Africa adding that each of the eleven awardees will have a corner in the building named after him.
Also speaking, the chairman governing council of the college Shaheed Johnson applauded the giant strides made in the last 50 years making FCE Yola to stand tall as one of the best colleges of education in the country.
“50 years of training teachers is not a joke. FCE has turned out reputable people and has trained over 40,000 students making it a leading example amongst colleges of education in the country,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to Adamawa State government, federal ministry of education, NCCE, NEDC and TETFUND amongst others.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Justice Nathan Musa thanked the college for recognizing excellence noting that it is a sign that there is reward for every good deed.
He also acknowledged the landmark development made in the college over the years placing the institution in high esteem.
Over N100m was realized during the launch of the book which was attended by dignitaries from all corners of Nigeria.
