Operation whirlwind intercepts smuggled petrol valued at N22.9m in Adamawa
In another effort to disrupt smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, the Nigeria’s major petrol anti-smuggling unit also known as operation whirlwind has confiscated petrol worth N22.9 million in Adamawa State.
The national coordinator of operation whirlwind, ACG Hussien Jibunu noted that 916 kegs of PMS was seized across illegal routes in Maiha, Mubi, Gurin and Belel.

“The relentless efforts of Operation Whirlwind to combat smuggling of PMS and protect Nigeria’s economic interests have once again yielded significant results.
“Earlier this month, our dedicated officers intercepted and seized 916 Jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), containing 25 liters each, yielding a volume of 22,900 liters, at these following flashpoints Maiha, Mubi, Gurin and Belel in Adamawa State.
“This operation was intelligence-driven and executed with precision, reflecting the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service in safeguarding our nation’s resources and ensuring compliance with the law.
“The seized items, with an estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Twenty-Two Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira Only (₦22,900,000), were being transported through unauthorized routes, intended for illicit trade that undermines our economy and security,” he said .
Jibunu who extolled the office of the national security Adviser (ONSA) and NMDPRA for their unwavering commitment to rid the country of smuggling of petroleum products noted that smuggling remained a significant threat to Nigeria’s economy.
“The interception is not just a victory for the Customs Service but a testament to the effectiveness and supportive collaboration of the ONSA and NMDPRA.
Smuggling of PMS, remains a significant challenge, driven by economic disparities and the lure of quick profits.
“However, let me assure you that the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi is resolute in its mission to dismantle smuggling networks and bring economic saboteurs to justice.
“I want to commend the officers and men of Operation Whirlwind for their bravery, vigilance, and professionalism. Your dedication inspires confidence in our ability to protect Nigeria’s economic sovereignty.
“To the public, I urge you to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Customs office. Together, we can create a safer and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
