Outstanding leadership: University of Port Harcourt honours Gov Fintiri
The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has announced the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science in Public Administration on the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in recognition of his distinguished leadership and outstanding contributions to public service.
The decision, conveyed by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Gloria Chindah, was approved by the University Senate and will be formally awarded during the institution’s 35th Convocation Ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2025.

Reacting to the announcement, Governor Fintiri expressed deep appreciation for the honor, describing it as a validation of his commitment to responsible governance and the upliftment of society.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to accept this award from the University of Port Harcourt.
“It affirms the values of service, integrity, and dedication that guide my work as governor. I dedicate this honor to the people of Adamawa State whose support inspires me daily,” Fintiri via a statement by his chief press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou said.
The governor thanked the University’s Senate and Governing Council for the recognition, pledging to uphold the ideals the award represents. Fintiri also emphasized that the award serves as motivation to continue advancing development and good governance both in Adamawa and across Nigeria.
Governor Fintiri, who has earned national acclaim for his education reforms, infrastructural development, and inclusive governance model, joins the list of prominent Nigerians recognized by the University of Port Harcourt for their contributions to national growth.
The honorary doctorate marks another milestone in the Governor’s public service journey and highlights his growing influence as a national leader.
