Haske commiserates with Yola flood victims, urges swift govt response

Renowned Adamawa-born businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Abdurrahman Bashir Haske, has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating flood that ravaged parts of Yola South Local Government on Sunday morning, leaving in its trail, deaths devastation and displacement.
In a heartfelt message he personally signed, Haske sympathized with the families who lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods to the raging floodwaters.

He described the incident as heartbreaking tragedy that calls for urgent and coordinated response.
“I am deeply pained by the unfortunate incident that struck our brothers and sisters in Yola South. The loss of innocent lives, including children, is a tragedy no community should ever experience.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” he said.
He commended the courage of first responders, local volunteers, and community leaders who have been assisting victims since the early hours of the disaster.
However, he emphasized the need for more concrete and structured support, especially from the state government in order to fastrack healing and addressing the harrowing psychological trauma the victims are going through.
“While the community spirit displayed so far is commendable, this disaster beings to the fore the urgent need for government at all levels to take concrete steps to address the underlying issues causing perennial floods, not just to provide immediate relief,” he said.
Haske called on the Adamawa State Government to swiftly deploy emergency aid, including food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter to the displaced. He also urged authorities to commence a thorough investigation into the underlying factors contributing to the recurring flooding, including poor drainage systems, unregulated construction, and weak urban planning.
“This tragedy is one mishap tok many. We need deliberate action to prevent future disasters. Our people deserve to live in safety and dignity,” he added.
Haske also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other humanitarian organizations to augment local efforts in alleviating the suffering of the victims.
He assured residents of his continued commitment to support humanitarian causes and promised to work closely with community leaders and stakeholders to explore avenues for providing aid to the affected areas.
“At this trying period, it is pertinent to extend olive branch to the victims. I will do all within my capacity to support recovery efforts and help rebuild the lives and hopes of our people in Yola South,” he said.
