Dangote, Ahmed Farouk saga: LND calls for fair, impartial investigation
The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into a petition reportedly filed against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Ahmed Farouk.
In a statement signed by its Assistant National Publicity Secretary, Mahmood Tunde Hassan, the League said it was deeply concerned by the allegations, given the strategic importance of the petroleum midstream and downstream sector to Nigeria’s economy, energy security and revenue generation.

The petition, it would be recalled, was reportedly submitted by Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote, alleging misconduct by the NMDPRA boss. The petition accuses Farouk of engaging in expenditures far beyond his legitimate income, including claims that over five million dollars was allegedly spent on secondary education for four of his children in Switzerland.
The League stressed that while the allegations raise serious public interest concerns, it is imperative that due process is strictly observed and that no conclusions are drawn until a comprehensive and professional investigation is concluded by the appropriate authorities.
“The prominence of the individuals and institutions involved makes it even more critical that all parties are accorded fairness, objectivity and respect for institutional processes,” the statement said.
According to the LND, regulatory institutions such as the NMDPRA play a vital role in maintaining investor confidence, market stability, industrial growth and national economic security. As such, any allegation involving the leadership of such a critical institution must be handled with the utmost seriousness and integrity.
The League urged the ICPC to ensure that its investigation is free, fair and transparent, warning against actions, statements or leaks that could prejudice ongoing inquiries or fuel misinformation, speculation and politicisation.
It further emphasized that transparency in handling the matter is essential to protecting the national interest, upholding the rule of law and ensuring that neither status nor influence interferes with the pursuit of truth.
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and good governance, the League of Northern Democrats said a clear, fact-based outcome, responsibly communicated, would help reinforce public trust in Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework and regulatory governance.
“The integrity of regulatory institutions is fundamental to investor confidence and public trust. This matter must be addressed in a manner that safeguards public interest and strengthens confidence in Nigeria’s economic and governance systems,” the statement concluded.
