Man in police net over alleged killing of elder brother in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Abubakar Sadiq, as the prime suspect in the killing of Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga in Gombi Local Government following a major operational breakthrough against violent crime.
In a press release issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect who is the deceased’s younger brother and a resident of Boga Village, Gombi LGA, was apprehended after credible intelligence led operatives of the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, working in collaboration with professional hunters, to immediately swing into action.

According to the statement, the murder occurred on January 20, 2026. The police spokesman said Abubakar Sadiq reportedly confessed to have committed the crime alongside five other accomplices.
Nguroje noted that the suspect further led police operatives to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle allegedly used in carrying out the killing, as well as 24 rounds of live ammunition.
“The suspect also named two of his alleged accomplices as Jalo Hamiyu, 35, and Umar Baba, 41, both male residents of Fotta Village in Gombi LGA.
“Acting swiftly on the information, a joint team comprising police operatives, hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force proceeded to the suspects’ hideouts to effect their arrest.
“However, the police disclosed that upon sighting the operatives, the two suspects opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest. This led to a gun duel, during which both suspects were neutralised. Additional exhibits recovered at the scene include one locally made single-barrel rifle and one Dane gun,” the statement noted.
The Command stated that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the alleged criminal network linked to the homicide and other violent crimes in the area.
Accordingly, the state police commissioner, Dankombo Morris, praised the gallantry and professionalism of the Divisional Police Officer and his men. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguard lives and property across Adamawa State.
The police also urged members of the public to continue support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing and future security operations.
The Command noted that the suspect in custody will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation.
