LND condemns Jos killings, raises alarm over alleged involvement of US national
The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence and killings in Anguwan Rukuba, located in Jos, Plateau State, describing the incident as gruesome and deeply troubling.
In a press statement dated April 1, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ladan Salihu, the group called on security agencies to carry out a thorough and painstaking investigation into the attack, with a view to identifying and prosecuting those responsible.

Beyond condemning the killings, the LND expressed serious concern over the alleged involvement of an American national, Alex Berbir, who it claimed was present at the scene shortly after the violence occurred. The group described him as a suspected mercenary and questioned the circumstances surrounding his presence in the country and specifically at the attack location.
The statement raised several critical questions, urging authorities to clarify when Berbir entered Nigeria, how he was able to arrive at the scene so quickly, and the purpose of his visit. It also called for scrutiny of a bag he was reportedly seen carrying at the time, suggesting that its contents could be of investigative interest.
LND further alleged that Berbir had previously been seen in Jos engaging in activities capable of inciting religious tension. According to the group, video clips circulating online show him holding the Holy Qur’an while allegedly misrepresenting its teachings in a manner aimed at provoking hostility against Muslims. The organization described such actions as dangerous and unacceptable, particularly in a region already grappling with fragile security dynamics.
The group also faulted Berbir for making unverified claims on social media regarding the casualties from the incident, as well as issuing remarks directed at the President, warning that such statements could further inflame tensions and destabilize the situation.
Reaffirming its position, LND stressed that Nigeria’s sovereignty and peace must not be undermined by any individual, whether local or foreign. It warned against the dangers of misinformation, incitement, and provocative conduct, noting that such actions pose a serious threat to national unity.
As part of its call to action, the group urged security and immigration authorities to immediately investigate Berbir’s activities and movements, determine whether any Nigerian laws were violated, and take appropriate legal action where necessary.
The LND concluded by emphasizing the need to protect Nigeria’s unity and stability from both internal saboteurs and external actors.
