Climate change: ACReSAL kicks off planting of 2000 trees at FMC B-Kudu
The Agro-Climatic Resilience In Semi Arid and Landscape (ACReSAL) has begun planting of no fewer than 2,000 plantation trees at the new site of Federal Medical Center Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State.
Malam Zubairu Suleiman, communication officer of the ACReSAL flagged off the tree planting exercise at the premises of the new site of the medical center along Kangire road in Birnin Kudu on Tuesday.

He said the project was supported by the World Bank under its Community Driven Development on Tree Planting (CDD), saying “we are also working in collaboration with state ministry of environment.”
According to him, the trees would mitigate the effect of desertification, environmental degredation and provide conducive atmosphere to patients.
“The trees would cover 6 hecters of land and we would expand the scope in due course,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, Atterwahmie, the Medical Director of the Center, represented by Dr Halima Umar Ibrahim, the hospital Head of Clinical Services (HCS) lauded the group for the initiative.
She said trees serves as source of oxygen for human consumption and source of medicinal research and inventions, saying we would maximally maintain trees for the future.
“Even birds and other flying animals would use the trees as shelter and maintain the ecosystem,” she said.
The event was attended by principal officers of the hospital who include, Malam Aminu Ado Taura, the head of environmental health of the hospital, Engineer Ibrahim Nyass the head of works, Shafi’i Aminu Nuhu, Center establishment officer.
Others are, Malam Aliyu Usman, the head of Audit department and Comrade Aminu Musbshu chairman of the center Medical and health workers union of Nigeria MHWUN and Secretary Malam Garba Magaji Buruntumau.
Our correspondent reports that recently the chapter of the Birnin Kudu Youth Association BYA under the leadership of Comrade Kabiru Yau Sitti has planted over 2,500 trees at the new site of the center.
