Adamawa police vow to probe alleged acid attack on teenager, arrest suspect
The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, Walid Kassim Mohammed, in Shagari area of Yola South Local Government Area.
The incident was reported on January 14, 2026, when the teenager reportedly ran to the Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters in visible distress.
According to a statement signed by the police public relation officer, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the victim alleged that he was attacked while on his way to a mosque, where he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by one Idris Hamza, a resident of the same community.

“Upon receiving the report, officers immediately took action by rushing the victim to a hospital for urgent medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment, while the alleged attacker was taken into protective custody to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to ensure his safety pending investigation,” Nguroje said.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.
The directive, according to the PPRO, is aimed at guaranteeing a thorough, professional, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Police Command assured the public that the case would be handled with the seriousness it deserves, adding that all necessary steps would be taken to uncover the facts and ensure justice is served.
The command further appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as the probe continues.
